Mouth Guards

Our Calgary Dentists and Cochrane Dentists provide a variety of treatments including Sport Guards, Night Guards and Snore Guards.

What are Mouth Guards?

Mouth Guards are Removable Appliances

Mouth Guards are appliances that you wear over your teeth to provide a cover intended to protect or aid in function. At Harvest Dental Care, mouth guards are custom made to fit your teeth for comfort. We can take a digital scan of your mouth instead of goopy impression trays.

Prevention of Tooth Damange

Mouth guards, such as Sport Guards and Night Guards, reduce injury caused by tooth-on-tooth contacts. They reduce the risk of tooth chipping and fracturing. Snore guards also prevent tooth-on-tooth contact but also act to improve air movement to the lungs, thereby reducing snoring.

Types of Mouth Guards

  • Sport Guards

Sport guards are pliable appliances worn on either the upper or lower teeth (usually upper for contact sports). They provide some protection from direct impacts but more importantly prevent tooth-to-tooth collisions.

These are important for use in football, hockey, martial arts, basketball, soccer and many other contact and non-contact sports.

We use branded, quality material, sport guards provided by Pro-Form®.

  • Night Guards

This useful for those who clench or grind their teeth when they sleep. These fit on either you upper or lower teeth. There are two types:

Conventional Night Guards are custom fit appliances best able to withstand forces of biting and can be made with or without metal retention clasps.

Temporary Night Guards are custom fit, pliable appliances that resemble sport guards. We can make these within 1-2 clinic days.

  • Snore Guards

Snore guards are removable appliances are designed to improve air flow by moving the lower jaw slightly forward. This improved air flow reduces air way restrictions and helps to reduce snoring sounds.

These appliances differ from Sport Guards and Night Guards by fitting on both the upper and lower teeth. We make custom-fitted patented EMA snore guards.

Some insurances will provide coverage for this when prescribed by a medical doctor. Contact our Reception Desk for more information regarding insurance coverage and snore guards.

Why Choose us for Mouth Guards?

  • Technology

We;ve invest in digital scanning technology. Don’t like goopy dental impression trays? Do you have a gag reflex? We have an iTero which allows us to take a digital scan of your mouth (by taking thousands of images every second) and generates a virtual 3D model of your teeth, which we can 3D print in our clinic.

  • Customization

Every patient is unique, and every mouth is unique. We can make recommendations regarding the right mouth guard for your situation. Choose the right treatment for the problem rather than a universal solution for all. Have a check-up and cleaning to discuss your needs or just have a specific appointment to discuss sport guards, night guards or snore guards.
