Why have a Dental Cleaning & Check-up?

Dental Cleanings

A Professional Dental Cleaning effectively eliminates deposits and tartar that toothbrushes alone cannot manage. These deposits are typically stubborn and require the expertise of a HYGIENIST (Registered Dental Hygienists or RDH that are regulated by the Alberta College of Dental Hygienists). Dental cleanings help to safeguard against gum recession, bone loss (gum disease), and the potential loss of teeth.

Dental Check-ups

A dental check-up involves a thorough inspection of your teeth and oral tissues by a DENTIST (a doctor registered with the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta). Only a Dentist can assesses dental x-rays to detect any hidden changes in your teeth and bones. They also visually examine the surfaces of your teeth and gums for any indications of decay or disease. Why is it important to have these check-ups regularly by a dentist? It’s easier to fix small problems before they develop into larger ones.

Dental Cleaning Steps

  • Dental Records

Our Hygienists will only take the necessary set of X-rays to assess the health of your mouth. In many cases, we will also perform a 3D photographic scan of your mouth (we call this a Dental Health Scan using an iTero Digital Scanner.

  • Tartar Removal

Our Dental Hygienists will use instruments that generate low pressure sound waves to remove the hard deposits from the tooth's surface. If you have sensitivity ask about options for topical gels to numb you before treatment. We focus to develop a custom cleaning plan around your needs.

  • Dental Polishing

Once the teeth have been cleaned of deposits, we polish the tooth surfaces to eliminate any surface stains and create a smooth surface, preventing stains and deposits from accumulating.

  • Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral. Fluoride exposure to the teeth can reverse the early demineralization and prevent decay of the tooth surface due to acids related to sugar qne acids.
