Dr. Osman Anwar BSc, DDS*
General Dentist

Calgary Dentist / Cochrane Dentist

I've been a practicing dentist since 2001, initially beginning my career at a dental clinic in Crescent Heights in Calgary. Currently, I'm fully dedicated to practicing Family, Cosmetic, and General Dentistry. I spend my time between our two Harvest Dental Care locations in Calgary and Cochrane.

EDUCATION

I earned my B.Sc. in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology (essentially Microbiology) from the University of Calgary. During my undergraduate years, I volunteered on Friday afternoons at the Foothills Hospital, where I chatted with elderly patients, delivered hot dinners, and offered ice water and arrowroot cookies (remember those biscuits as kid?). After graduating with my BSc, I spent a year pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (which wasn't my calling and I didn’t finish) before being admitted to the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FOMD) for my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

PAST EMPLOYMENT

My humble employment history includes roles such as lawn cutting, grocery night crew clerk, car wash attendant, computer repair and webpage developer, and car partsman. I didn't have everything handed to me on a silver platter, so I understand the value of hard work and perseverance. I truly appreciate the variety of people's backgrounds and the unique challenges and struggles they face in life. I recognize that many factors (including life ones) contribute to the choices people make about dental treatment and how different points in peoples lives bring different dental challenges.

IN MY SPARE TIME

I cherish spending time with my caring and understanding wife. While I have a passion for cooking, I must admit that I enjoy eating even more! In the last few years, Calgary’s restaurant offerings have exploded, making my attempts at weight loss quite challenging. I am also the current Chair of the AACA (American Academy of Clear Aligners) Calgary Study Club, where I organize monthly speakers and training modules for local dentists providing Invisalign and orthodontic treatment.

MY FUTURE

My future aspirations include dreaming of becoming an Iron Chef, though I know it's a far-fetched goal. I also enjoy mentoring and teaching graduate and dental students.

One day, I hope to build a Mobile Dental Clinic that can serve northern Canada (where there is a significant need) and third-world countries to provide charitable dental care. It's a work in progress, and I plan to pursue it when I have more time and more grey hair.

I look forward to serving you and your family at either of our locations and making a positive impact on your dental health.

Most sincerely,

  • I enjoy running the AACA Calgary Study Club which brings community dentists interested in learning about Invisalign.

A good meeting requires my team to help create a relaxing atmosphere for dentists and cater meals for our study club members.

  • I enjoy working in Harvest Dental Care as a full time practitioner and enjoy working with all of my team members.

Working together with a great team allows me to focus on patient care during clinic operations.

  • This is my first journey into Digital Smile Design Residency 1 continuing education in Las Vegas (November 2022).

This is not an official designation or specialty recognized by the CDSA.

  • This was my second journey into Digital Smile Design Residency 2 continuing education in Seville, Spain (Mar 2023). I really enjoy taking continuing education courses.

Special Interests

  • Aesthetic Smile Design

Aesthetic smile design is a multidisciplinary dental approach focused on enhancing the visual appeal of a person's smile, considering factors like tooth color, alignment, shape, and overall harmony to create a beautiful and confident appearance. It involves a combination of cosmetic treatments and procedures tailored to your unique presentation, where he strive to deliver the smile of your dreams.

I have invested countless continuing education hours to hone and update my knowledge about material science and care delivery.

  • Invisalign® Teeth Alignment

Invisalign is teeth alignment solution that utilizes clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten misaligned teeth discreetly. This innovative orthodontic treatment offers a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional braces while providing effective results for achieving a beautifully aligned smile.

I have been a registered Invisalign provider since 2009. This is an area in which I enjoy blending tranditional orthodontic treatment with digital technology using iTero Digital Scanners (no more goopy impressions).

  • Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for replacement teeth. They are a durable and long-lasting solution for restoring missing teeth, ensuring improved function and a natural-looking smile.

I did my initial continuing education residency in dental implant treatment in London Ontario (2008) and have completed a second continuing education treatment on live patients in the Dominican Republic (2019).

I am providing treatment as a General Dentist.
